2nd Edition of NEPU Anniversary Symposium to mark its 68 years

On August 8, 2018, the Centre organised and hosted the 2nd edition of the annual NEPU anniversary which marked 68 years since the establishment of the Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU) by the eight Kano-based Nigerian nationalists at Sabon Gari, Kano on August 8, 1950. The theme of this year’s anniversary symposium was “Siyasar Cikin Gida, Tsare-tsaren Gudanar da Jam’iyya: Darasi Daga Jam’iyyar NEPU”. The occasion was chaired by ……………………………….. and was attended by many NEPU and PRP supporters.

The aim of the annual NEPU lecture series was to reflect on the historic political struggles spearheaded by the NEPU leadership and followership, which largely revolved around the emancipation of the talakawa from the domination of the privileged few and the reformation of autocratic political institutions in the North into democratic institutions for the attainment of a post-colonial egalitarian society.
